Simple and Free DIY Upcycled Bottle Vase
Adding a little green in your house can help brighten up your space, but plants cost money, (both artificial and live ones). While I do have live plants in my home, an easy way to get the same effect for zero of the cost is to upcycle a nice glass bottle and stick in some plant cuttings from your yard.
1. Start with a glass bottle.
It can be any type of glass bottle, but I prefer to use clear glass bottles that used to hold wine or liquor. I also prefer bottles that had corks in them versus a screw cap because I prefer the smoother bottle opening. It has a more finished look in my opinion. Personally, I don’t drink, but a friend of mine left this old whiskey bottle at my house.
2. Remove the Labels.
I actually thought goo gone would work better than plain old water, but I was wrong. It was taking too long so I ended up rinsing the bottle under hot water and the label came right off. Different bottles have different label glues, so use what works for you. After you’re done peeling, wash it with some dish soap and hot water to remove any remaining residue.
3. Cut Some Plants.
Now that you have a label free bottle, go outside and take some plant cuttings. I had some overgrown trees and shrubs in my yard so I cut a few small branches and sprigs. I tried to find a variety of shapes and lengths to give my arrangement more depth and interest, but you could easily pick one branch and make something simple and elegant. Even though I picked some lavender, I ended up leaving it out of the arrangement because it looked too cluttered.
4. Arrange them in whatever way you prefer and voila! You’ve got yourself a touch of greenery in a glass vase that cost you nothing.
